A fun bookkeeping name for great study practice.
Getting started is the hardest thing for most tasks, but for studying it is well mind blanking.
I use a technique that I have called Knowledge Ledger Mapping just a play on a bookkeeping term. There are many examples of this all over the internet.
I actually came around a similar technique when I homeschooled my daughter. We were sent guides to assist us as parents be the Teacher. WOW! That was an incredible (think chair throwing and rewarding at the same time) experience and that story will have to wait. (insert smiling, winking emoji)
My take on it is:
What do you know? - Find a quiz or go straight to the activities or questions in your textbook. Don't go and find the answers, just do the ones you know, maybe then take a guess or leave it blank.
What to you need to know? - Now it is time to review the above, celebrating your correct answers (excellent!), being surprised at the guesses you got right (woohoo!!) and highlighting what you need to study.
Where do you find the information? - This is about the references. Even if you have them correct, can you back your answers with evidence. I like to keep a spreadsheet with the links and other information, so that once I have found an awesome reference (evidence) I don't have to go looking for it again. I am so good at going into a rabbit hole using my search engine. I start looking for an example of a source document and end up with a recipe for tonight's dinner.
My template for bookkeeping terms can be found in the Bookkeeping Base Community. Yes there is a cost involved in joining. This is to ensure that real people are joining and that you put your money where your mouth is. It is the cost of a cup of coffee.
